If you'd like to point a domain that you have to a different domain address or subdomain, a good way to do this would be to use a CNAME record. By creating such a record, the domain name being forwarded loses all its records (A, MX, etc) and instead, it takes the A record of the Internet domain it's redirected to. By doing this, if you are using a web design service by some company that gives you a subdomain, you can use an actual domain name and not only will it be forwarded to the Internet site that you have set up, but it will also be displayed in the web browser address bar at all times. Other possible uses of a CNAME record are to direct all of the visitors from various subdomains to their main domain address, or to use the webmail service of your webhosting company by using webmail.your-doman.com, for instance. The latter will work only by creating a CNAME record for a subdomain due to the fact that this type of a record created for the main domain name renders it impossible to use e-mail addresses.

CNAME Records in Cloud Web Hosting

Setting up a CNAME record using our Linux cloud web hosting packages is quite simple. Our in-house built Hepsia CP features a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names, so you can set up a new CNAME record for any domain or subdomain hosted within your account in just a few easy steps. You can find a video tutorial within the same section where you can see the process first-hand. This feature gives you a variety of opportunities - if you create a company site on our end, for instance, the employees can use their emails with the company domain address, not with the address of our mail server. If you wish to create an Internet site by using a different provider which offers online web design services, you can easily forward a domain hosted here and use it for the website. Last, but not least, in case you have a web-based store and you have a billing system for http://your-domain.com and/or an SSL certificate, you could create a CNAME record for the www subdomain and forward it to the main domain, so all your clients are going to be forwarded to a secure URL.

CNAME Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

You will be able to set up, modify and delete CNAME records easily with any of our semi-dedicated server plans. The accounts are handled using the custom Hepsia hosting CP, and in one of its sections you'll see all records for every domain or subdomain you have added in your account. To create a new record, you need to choose the hostname that will be forwarded (domain/subdomain), input where it is going to be forwarded to, pick the record type, that'll be CNAME in this case, and you're going to be all set. Even if you have never used a web hosting service before, our Control Panel is extremely intuitive to use, so you'll not have any issues. We also have a short video and a detailed help article on how to create a CNAME record, both of which can be found in the exact same section of Hepsia. With this function, you could easily use a domain hosted on our revolutionary cloud hosting platform for a website created someplace else, create a custom webmail login address with any of your domain names, and more.
